Guilds
By Kari
Okay. it's time to start another guide. This is about the wide world of guilds. it's tough competiton to get members so let's start with the basics- actually making a guild.

#1: Choose a Neighborhood.
It doesn't matter how crowded it is. Some people choose neighborhoods according to a theme. I believe you can change it so if you ever get an urge...
#2: Desired Guild Name.
Just pick a name.
#3: Guild Descrption.
Just put a couple brief sentences about your guild like if it is for role-playing.
#4: Guild Welcome Message.
A nice layout atracts people so if you are no good at graphics you might want to get a premade one from a website (*cough*snowickle*cough*). You put the coding in here. Then you write whatever about your guild but it can be more extensive. Many people have council chat.
#5: Private Guild?
Private means people can't see it unless they are already part or were invited (more about this later). If it's a whatever guild then I wouldn't suggest it but if you only want certain people that go for it.
#6: The Customizing of Guild colors.
Choose all the colors like background and what not. Pick some you think look good together and then you can preview to see if you like it. You can also pick a premade.
#7: Guild Hierachy
This is the council. They are the staff of your guild- the ones people look up to. When they apply only accept if you deem them worthy. You can make the spots called different things or leave it as Neopets did.
#8: Create the guild!
Self-explanatory.
REMEMBER: Guild contests are against the rules.

On Options it will say 'Invite'. If your guild is private or you just want someone to see it then you can send them an invite and they will get a neomail. It also says calendar so anyone can put important dates. There is also messages which is like a neoboard for just your guild.
When you have members you can go to the bottom (under Admin) to edit their controls. The people on your council, well, you might think they could get a few admin powers like changing the layout of the guild or whatever. To do that you click on his or her username. Then you can edit his or her controls. if people start to apply for staff you click 'Guild Council' which is under the same thing. Also under their you can choose guild poll. You can make a poll for everyone to vote on.

Now that we have discussed making a guild let's talk about joining one and helping you to pick the right one.
Many things make a good guild but one of the most important is active members. If nobody does anything then it is boring. Your messages should be growing and all of your members should be talking. Next, though it means nothing I suggest you have an attractive lookup. It is appealing to people. You might want to pick a 'theme,' like if you have a role-play guild and have a certain genre.
To choose the right guild you have to think of what your interests are. I love the Beauty Contest and art and such so I joined the one I did (click my name to check it out). Everyone there is good for me. Now you should pick a guild that is about whatever your interest is. I have been in several role-play guilds because I love to role-play. It all depends on you.
Now guilds may seem pointless to some of you. For some it is a way to have a chat without being accused of being a spammer. If there is no set topic then they can just talk. It's always fun to talk to people that have the same interests as yourself. For others it's a way to have a multi-person, long term role-play. That seems appealing, huh?
Okay-- I think that pretty much sums it up. If you have any questions pop me a neomail and I'll do my best to answer it and add it to the guide.
