Training Your Pet

by Hannah F.

Training your pet is necessary to fight well in the Battledome. You can train in five areas. In order to train on defence, agility or those types of things, your pets level must be at least half of its maximum health level. Most people choose one pet to train. Select a pet you would like to be your battling buddy! Make sure they have complete health and are all fed!

Areas to train in:
Level: No stat can exceed the level by 2x. (If your level is 10, your other stats can't be higher than 20.)
Strength: This stat will affect how much damage your pet does when it hits.
Defence: This stat will affect how much damage your pet takes when it gets hit.
Movement: This stat will affect how often your pet is able to dodge attacks.
Endurance: This stat affects how many hit points, or "life" your pet has (how much damage it can take before it is defeated).

Intelligence is not trainable. You increase your pet's Intelligence with other things (random events, reading it books, Faerie Crossword, etc.)

When you're deciding what area to train in, look at the stats your pet already has. It is not necessary to train up "Level" if none of the other stats are twice as high as level. If one of the areas is much lower than the others, it is a good idea to train that area. Don't increase your Level unless you have to do it to increase your other stats, because the price of the training goes up as the levels go up.

There are a few ways besides training that stats can be increased:
- Faerie Quests. Random-event Faerie Quests will increase your stats. Except for the Earth Faerie. Never take her quests, she will just restore the health of your pet which you can do for free at the Healing Springs, so it's a waste of money.
- Coltzan's Shrine. Coltzan will sometimes increase your pet's stats.
- Random events. Sometimes a random event will say "_____ feels faster!" or something along those lines.
- The Secret Lab Map can zap your pets and change their stats.

The Training Schools Let's go into how the training schools work. They are both pretty much the same, with just about exactly the same menus at the top. I'll use the Krawk Island Academy for my examples.

Courses
The "Courses" link at the top will take you to a page where you can select which pet you will train and in what area. Select from the dropdown menus. I've chosen to enroll Combatfaerie in an Endurance course.

Status
Once you click "Start Course" it will automatically take you to the Status page, but you can also click the "Status" link at any time. This takes you to a page that shows you which pets are enrolled in courses and how much time is left in each course. It's also where you pay for courses. When the pet's course is done in a few hours (time depends on what level they are), you return to the status page to click "Finish Course!" Sometimes a bonus will occur, and they will gain 2 points instead of one.

Sayings/Wisdom
This just generates some random saying that the instructor (Cap'n Threelegs or the Nimmo from the Training School) will say. Sometimes Cap'n Threelegs is pretty funny.

Now you've decided which pet to train and what stat to train, it's time to think about where to train them. Let's look at the options...

Cap'n Threelegs' Swashbuckling Academy
Explore - Krawk Island - The Academy

Getting to this place is easy, but the training is grueling.
Cap’n Threelegs only takes neopets up to level 40. Once you hit 41, sorry. Guess you’ll have to go to the Mystery Island Training School! Courses are paid for with dubloons. The cost depends on the level of your pet. Once you select your course, it will show you the cost. If you change your mind beforey paying, you can click "Cancel" and your pet will be withdrawn from the course.

Mystery Island Training School

Courses are paid for with codestones. The cost here also depends on the level of your pet. Endurance at this training school is allowed to be trained up to three times your level, instead of just to twice your level. And, the folks are much more friendly! The take you up to level 250- but really? Do you even need a stronger pet than that?

Caution: Once you enroll your pet in a course at the Mystery Island training school and it shows you the cost, you must pay for it. You can't cancel it, and your pet will stay in that school waiting for the course until you pay for it.

Comparison
At the Academy, you pay in dubloons. But at the Training School you pay in codestones- much more expensive. But if you want your pet trained quickly the Training School is the way to go.
